How we count

What the figures in FlyGamma mean.

FlyGamma counts the reports available to it. Its numbers describe the current feed or the dated archive, not every flight in the world.

Flights and aircraft

Journey Desk groups the current feed by reported flight number. A flight is counted as airborne only when the feed marks it airborne. A tracked flight may be on the ground. Different flight numbers can sometimes refer to the same operating aircraft, so these are not guaranteed counts of unique physical aircraft.

Airports, airlines and aircraft types

An airport's count includes reported flights with that airport as an origin or destination. An airline's headline counts airborne flights in the feed. An aircraft type's list count includes flights reporting that type; its expanded figure separately identifies airborne flights.

Routes

A route groups a reported airport pair in both directions. The Routes map initially shows up to 20 of the busiest matching connections. These are observations in the feed, not proof of a complete scheduled route network.

Timetables and codeshares

Airport arrival and departure boards come from a separate timetable lookup. They can include scheduled, landed and cancelled flights, and more than one marketing number for the same movement. A timetable count therefore differs from the airborne map count. A partial response is labelled as partial.

Times and unknown information

Airport local clocks are used when the airport timezone is known; otherwise a detail clock is labelled UTC. Missing times, gates, positions and delays remain unreported. An elapsed scheduled arrival does not establish that a flight has landed.

Freshness

The footer shows the age of the latest position snapshot. Refreshing the browser does not guarantee a newer supplier report. Written airport and airline pages describe dated observations and can differ from the current map.
